Testing on MomsCashBlog

Posted Monday, August 11, 2008 by momscashblog | 11 Comments so far

This is just a test to get another post out onto the internet to see how well I’m being indexed and how my RSS subscriber feed is working after  my blogs RSS or Atom Feed became disconnected or disabled from the transfer… (see Question About RSS and the comments.) Of course, there is still some work to be done to set things right from the “transfer or loss of content” to figure out exactly what ALL of my problems are, but I know we’ll get there with LLoyd Lopez’s help.

I slacked off this weekend because I needed to get away from blogging and the stress of not being indexed for so long…. Oh yeah, and from Feedburner telling me I could be toast! lol Since we had yet another party (Pig Roast) in my area, I decided to take off a couple of days and forget all about Feedburner, search engines, stats, toast and all those things that go with blogs. Alright it’s the second weekend I’ve done this, so I bet I sound like a wild and crazy party girl.. (lol) Hey, summer comes but once a year, and where I am currently in the NorthEast, they celebrate summer with great outdoor parties that are well deserved after those cold and snowy winters. It’s the perfect stress reliever with wonderful live music, great food and drink… wonderfully humerous people, and the warmth and smell of cozy fires burning when night falls. I must say, it has been a relief to get away from it all… (although I did go to my house a few times to feed the cat and go online and make a few comments. lol)  Now that the fun is over, I have some serious work to do to get my blog back in good running order with Lloyd’s help. (He has sent me my homework assignment, so I better get working on it! lol) (more…)

How Much Money Does a Blog Make?

Posted Friday, August 1, 2008 by momscashblog | 23 Comments so far

When I bought MomsCashBlog in early May I knew very, very little about how blogs worked and my technical skills were ah.. pretty low! lol. One thing I did know is that to make money sometimes you have to take a risk, and the best way to learn something fast is to just jump right in feet first!  That way you have no choice but to learn the ropes. (it’s sink or swim… and most people swim! lol) So I bought a blog that was already in progress… already monetized by a pro, had good PageRank, and had a great tutorial to market and attract new visitors.

Back then I planned to tell my blog earnings after the first 3 months, no matter what it was. August 4 will be the official end of the 3rd month, but this is close enough to give you an idea as I’m rounding off the amounts anyways. I have never divulged any of my incomes before, much less put it on the internet! lol But I want to do my blogging earnings just this once. I feel obligated to tell this because I think it’s encouraging to others who are starting a blog and for those who want to get into blogging. It’s just good to know  what some blogs make. (more…)

How to Write Ads That Sell — Part II

Posted Friday, July 18, 2008 by momscashblog | 27 Comments so far

The following guidelines will help you write good ad copy if you’re using your blog to make money by selling a product or service. If you need to know more about ad writing, there’s many books with more details (Also read Part I in my last post). Here’s a couple of books on advertising that are rated very well: The Online Advertising Playbook and Tested Advertising Methods.

Headline
Ad headlines are different from blog post titles, so don’t use this advice for post titles. Headlines can be 2 or 3 lines long and they should be intriguing. On the other hand, blog post titles should be short and to the point if you want them to be searchable. You don’t have to worry about anyone searching for the headline of your ad. They’ll be searching for your product or service.

Ask a Question Headline: Ask a question in your headline to compel your reader to continue reading the ad. Some good question headline starters are: Why should you… What would you do if…. When should you… Would you… Should you… Could you… Did you know… and What if… An example would be: What would you do if your blog traffic doubled overnight and tripled within a week’s time?  (more…)

Pep Talk for Beginner Bloggers

Posted Tuesday, July 1, 2008 by momscashblog | 14 Comments so far

One big lesson I’ve learned about blogging is that you can’t worry too much about what other’s think. It’s just like life, you have to row your own boat and not let anyone else get in your way. Blogging can be kind of scary at first because you could be talking to the whole world… but then again, you could be talking to no one but yourself. (and you will be in the beginning!) You have to just do your own thing. Remember, it’s YOUR blog and no one else has the right to tell you what to do with it.

Over the past 2 months, I’ve had some e-mails from many people who’ve used the Free Blog Tutorial and now have blogs. Some don’t quite dare to take that first step and go public with thier blogs… and some have stopped altogether. I know there’s a lot of pressure for beginner bloggers because I’m going thru it myself. All I can do is give you a sisterly “pep talk” and tell you don’t give up, and don’t put too much pressure on yourself. Make Money With New Visitors to Your Blog

Posted Saturday, June 28, 2008 by momscashblog | 14 Comments so far

One thing you can do to bring in new visitors to your blog is make posts that are ”off topic”. Studies have proven that new visitors are the ones most likely to click on your ads and use them for all they are worth. When a person first visits a site his/her brain is stimulated and engaged in the process. Their minds are open and they become curious and they don’t mind pushing those buttons and checking out your ads to see what it’s all about. After a visitor has been on a site for a while and becomes a ”regular” he/she becomes desensitized and eventually stop using your ads. There’s a certain point where visitors only read your posts.

By going off topic and bringing in someone new you not only benefit from their first time curiosity and clicking instincts… chances are very good that you can change their thought process and that can be good for both you and the visitors. (more…)

MomsCashBlog’s Troubles are Over

Posted Thursday, June 26, 2008 by momscashblog | 12 Comments so far

Hi folks,

I found out that anything done during the transition period could get bumped, so that’s why my last 2 posts are gone. It was a time warp, and all of my usernames and passwords went back to before, but I’m in the present now! LOL I assume the transition period is over by now so this post should take.

Here’s the skinny on what happened…. I was told that MomsCashBlog was pointing to another server that was not in my name. It was an honest mistake and I know it was not done intentionally. We had to get MCB onto a separate account of it’s own so that I would have clear ownership of it. I had lost all connection with Krysti and where I didn’t have much information to go on I made a post rather than take any legal action as I was advised to do. I had attempted to get in touch with her several times but got no reply. I tried the phone number I had 6 times that day before making the post, but come to find out that phone number wasn’t working.

I knew we would be able to clear it up if we had contact. I’m sorry if this caused any problems for Krysti. We both got bruised a little, but I’m sure her good reputation is still intact, and I hope mine is as well. As you can see, she took care of the problem right away after learning of it. She’s a good person and I wish her well in the future.

Finding the Right Product to Sell on eBay

Posted Wednesday, June 4, 2008 by momscashblog | 6 Comments so far

I found a really great tool that helps you find out which products sell well on eBay. I’m sure some of you already know about it, but I didn’t … and I think it deserves mention. It’s www.terapeak.com and you have to pay about $19 a month to use it. I really think it would be worth it to use for one month if you’re looking to sell products on eBay. ( I don’t mean selling your Aunt’s Elvis bobblehead… I mean selling a lot of product.)

Terapeak lets you search an eBay item to find all kinds of data on how it sells. That’s a great tool to have because some products just don’t sell well on eBay, so why waste your time even trying. It doesn’t mean your product is not good, it just means it’s not worth selling on eBay. It’s good to know these things before you get in too deep and spend a lot of money trying to sell something at the wrong place.

It give you the listing fees, items a seller has, and the success rate on a daily, monthly, or 90 day basis. When you search with something like this, always look for top sellers on eBay… don’t just look at the average price because it’s usually wrong. I recommend looking for the top 4-6 sellers to see what the product sold for. That’s the best way to get the right price on eBay and/or to know if you can compete easily enough.

You can also check out the “Hot Products” on eBay. This is good stuff to know if you don’t have a product yet, but know you want to sell something. You could choose something to sell from the Hot Products and start your venture from there. Of course there are hot products in many different categories, so check around.

I like that idea and to me it would be worth using it to find out what sells the best on eBay right from the start. I would get Terapeak for only a month and get all the information I could from te site in that one month. I would also get Robert Cyr’s book “Liquidation Sources Revealed” at http://www.thecloseoutindustry.com under Increase eBay Profits to find out more about liquidation, if I were going to take that route.

Let MomsCashBlog know if there’s another way to find this information easily without using Terapeak. I’ve never sold anything on eBay, but I’ve been a buyer many times! This looked like a good tool to use for sellers or anyone thinking about selling, but you might have something else to share with us.
