Alexa is a very important benchmark to determine the rankings and traffic of sites. Google is placed at the 2nd position as per Alexa rankings and traffic rankings and is facing tough competition from Live.com and of course Yahoo.

Hi,

My website and blog are art related, so like you said, I guess that I don’t have many techie visitors.
Now, if I’d install the toolbar, the only difference that it would make is that it would count my visits as well, right ? (I’m talking about my own web presence).
One thing that I guess you didn’t say : users of the toolbar should have their websites/blogs defined as their homepage.
And if we want some guerrila SEO, modify the homepage of the computers at work to your own website/blog.

My Alexa ranking is decent. Getting better every week. But what do you think about the ranking in PR? Is that worth looking into? My goal? Alexa under 100,000.

Great post as usual. Its always a good idea to keep an eye on your Alexa and Quancast numbers. Some affiliates relay on alexa to grant access. I am still working on my blog rating. oh well! thanks again for all the details!

Thanks for explaining the Alexa thing so well. I always learn new and helpful things at this blog. Most blogs that I have looked up talk too technical for me and use abbreviations that don’t mean anything to me. Don’t they understand some of us are new to this stuff? Keep them coming, pleeeeease!

It’s true Alexa Ranking doesn’t necessarily ring the cash register but a nice social badge to show online. Though I don’t use it on my blog, having an Alexa widget makes a whole lot of difference to your ranking, speaking of which I don’t see it here too.

I good way to increase your rank i find is to use entrecard and drop alot. If you’re aiming for a good rank give the blogging resources people extra attention since they are most likely to have the toolbar.

Having a good rank is never a good thing (i think) however depending on the topic of your site it may not really help you. Mainly because like you said its something mostly used by ‘techies’, so if you’re blog is aimed at non-techies it may not mean much to them.
