newecover1asm 125x150 The Secrets of Turning Ones Passion into Making Money OnlineTurning Ones Passion into a Business

We are always looking for new ways to make money online. We discuss affiliate marketing, starting a blog, or dropshipping with websites. But have you heard of “the Maker Movement” or “hobbypreneurs”?    It’s considered a “boom” on the internet, turning ones passions into  small businesses. A person with a gift  for  knitting, the arts, jewelry making,  writing stories or poetry whatever hobby you are into, can now make you money on the internet. Taking those hobbies  and creating a store online (small business) with the help of new internet applications that are coming out almost everyday,  anyone can now feature their wares on the internet and make money.

A lot of us have heard or are members of one of the very best sites on the internet for people with any kind of artistic know how, or a passion for crafting and that would be Etsy’s dot com. It is like a global marketplace where one can buy or sell their handmade items and turn them into cash. Martha Stewart has featured Etsy’s on her show several times as her favorite craft website. If any of you haven’t ever visited http://etsy.com you’ll see some of the most talented & unique craftsmanship, give it a look. Etsy’s gives you, the artist or craftsman a chance to make money and show  your work on your storefront.

People of all ages are turning their passions for crafts, hobbies, writings, & music  into businesses where it can either be full  or part time jobs.   Typically some of these ventures do just start off as a hobby or a love for a certain craft and later it transforms into a business online.

On Demand Publishing

Since the use of the internet, computer programs and high tech tools, things have been easier and cheaper to make in this age of  internet technology. You can now become a published author with your own hard or soft cover books. There are POD “print on demand” dot coms, self publishing, and ODP “on demand publishing” dot coms now.  One can get their stories, cookbooks, how to books or even that book of poetry  you have always thought you had in  you published, printed and you can start selling it at Amazon dot com or maybe Barnes & Noble. Have you had  dreams about vampires, like Stephanie Meyers phenom author of the Twilight series? I know she didn’t go with a ODP “on demand publishing” but just think about it, if you have a story in you you can get it published now without having to go through a large publishing company just to get turned down.

On cnn.com I had read an article about the subject of “on demand publishing” where the Director of http://lulu.com (which is one of the many “on demand publishing co.’s that one can find by a search) Gail Jordan was talking about all the great things that this fairly new nontraditional publishing companies can offer anyone who wants to write and get published. Jordan was saying there is no one telling you that they want you to change chapter 6 to chapter 10, or that the title doesn’t work for them, remember you can’t get rejected.  You pay for these services and they give you what you want without making you change anything.  Let’s not forget that this could be considered  “Green Publishing” you are only getting a certain amount of books printed so trees are being saved by using these services.

Sell Your Cookbook on the Internet
A friend of mine who helps me out once and awhile with all things technical on the internet,  and does Photoshop for me, were talking on the telephone about what her schedule was like and when she had time to fit  me in. She had mentioned in passing that she & her friend were going to be interviewed on one of the local radio stations, and told me I should tune in. BTW it was schedule to be on at 5 am, needless to say I didn’t tune in. I had asked what she was being interviewed for and she told me that they had published a cookbook about Maine recipes done in the traditional manner. Debi told me that they had been brainstorming different online projects when  she and her friend thought of the cookbook and went for it.

They were able to round up  some recipes that they both had kicking around from long ago, added some family favs, and of course some of the  traditional Maine recipes.  Debi formatted them into an ebook format then started looking for exactly the right phrase that people would be searching for. MaineDishes.com was the winner, so she secured the domain name and started the site.

This is the exciting part of this entrepreneurial story, they wanted to publish a cookbook and not just an ebook, that they could do on their own. Debi tells me they used Vervante.com a print on demand service to produce a soft cover edition and put both the ebook and the soft cover options on the site. Debi’s friend wrote the sales page, while she developed the graphics , took pics of some of the dishes she had made and Voila- Maine Dishes.com Volume 1 was ready for public viewing. Since getting their cookbooks published they have been promoting their books and website on local radio stations a number of times. Debi tells me sales are doing well for just starting out and expect sales to go up during the tourist season. Since doing a little research on this ODP (on demand publishing), I realize that this  wasn’t anything new, but it was a chance for people to possibly see their passion for writing accomplished.

I would  love it if you would check out MaineDishes.com and see if there are any “wicked good Maine recipes” that you  might want to try.  If anyone out there has  tried any of these  “on demand publishing” companies that are offered online and had either success or any bad experience, please stop by and share your knowledge with us.  I want to thank Debi and her friend for taking part in this series and if you have any questions  please leave a comment and we’ll get back to you soon.

Note: For my next post I will be interviewing a fellow blogger,  a lot of you may know and that is Ezekiel Haynes from http://ezekielhaynes.com . Ezekiel  has released a Jazz cd Reflections and it’s being sold on the internet. I’ve bought my cd from Amazon.com and it is one great jazz cd. I’d  like to get inside his head and see what he had to do to get his cd made and out on the internet. I also want to hear about turning his passion for music  into a business.  So sign up for my RSS and get ready for that next installment when it comes out.

Excellent Post-

as long as you have an idea, a hobby or a passion you believe in-why not develop a website around that diea or hobby. It’s the same thing I have done in my business.

Develop a website around a theme/idea or passion that is key word focused and provide content content and more content

Hi jj,

With all the resources available on the Internet both free and paid, there is no reason why anyone who has some talent or expertise can’t start making some money. There are so many opportunities out there and the possibilities are endless. All it really takes is a little creativity, drive and determination.

Great post but I dont know. Its just like most bloggers dont really discover their passion until they failed doing all th wrong things and when they feel they have to quit doing those stuffs, then they start doing the right things which is following the passion

Solid. There are so many ways to make money online nowadays that it is almost mind boggling where one should start. Your recommendation about “using” something you are passionate about is definitely one way to go and capitalize on it. The most important aspect though here is to take action. It won’t happen unless you do something about it.

Yes there are so many ways to make money online these days especially I’ve found if you have a passion you can capitalize on it and like you mention here the most important part is to take action and do something about it. To quote you again, “it won’t happen unless you do something about it.” Thanks so much for reading my post and I really thank you for leaving a comment. Greatly appreciated!! jj

Hi Keith, Thanks so much for stopping by and leaving a comment here on my post. If you are passionate about “public speaking” you will have to think of a way to turn that passion into a money maker. I’ve been to your site and I think you are certainly off to a great start, just by your wonderful hints and facts about how to speak in front of the public. You could also write a book or ebook on the ” Public Speaking”, or offer your services at small businesses to start with,or maybe even a YouTube video on some lessons of Public Speaking. Think of something quirky and maybe it’ll go viral on you…. who knows? Thanks again for stopping by and please stop by again. jj

Hi Melvin, True a lot of bloggers don’t find their passion for awhile but when they do or we do I think there’s no stopping us. I will agree sometimes it takes failing before we get it right. But like you say we must follow our passions. Thanks so much for stopping by and leaving a comment. I really appreciate it. jj

Passion – Passion – Passion – If you are creative you can make money in any niche, but you must have passion about the topic or at least a huge amount of knowledge!

Thanks JJ for a great post -

Roux, You are so correct with passion I personally think you can do anything. With the passion you must be one that can follow through with your project, I believe that’s where I tend to come short sometimes. I want to thank you so much for stopping by my blog and leaving a comment, your comment and point of view is very important to all of us here at MCB.Thanks again. jj

Hi JJ – Great post – but as many of us have experienced…the truth is that great ideas and hard work may actually not get you to financial freedom. If we’re not already abundant, we have blocks – beliefs, patterns of behavior, etc. – that actually keep us from creating real financial security let alone wealth! The only way to be sure our efforts will be successful is to be free of limiting beliefs, actions and energy patterns so that the money we attract is accessible to us, and we can keep more and more of it. How do you clear these blocks? Easy – I put together a clearing meditation for my clients and they love it, so now it’s available online to anyone who wants to learn how to use their energy and start Manifesting Abundant Cash – just visit http://www.manifestingcash.com – oh, and you can also manifest some extra cash by becoming an affiliate. Here’s to everyone creating abundant financial prosperity…in Living Harmony!

There is so much money inside the internet floating around, you just need to catch it with your niche passion.

The internet is a world wide market place, your not just benefiting from a having a business in a small town, you have a business accessible to billions of people.

If you do it right you can make a lot of money. No, it won’t happen overnight but with hard work and desire it will happen step by step.

The cool thing about the internet is that you can make money whether your 14 years old or 60 and you can even do it without much cash up front.

It may be a slightly bit harder but you can even do it for free.

@ReboundingMaster, the internet has certainly given making money business and communications a whole new outlook and as you mentioned put us on a level playing field… although money still talks! I checked out your site with the trampolines but I guess that’s not what they are called anymore and it looks like you have a great product to sell. With everyone either on diets or going to gyms yet having to cut back on memberships due to the economy, I would think you are doing great with your business. Good luck to you! I also would like to thank you for stopping at MCB and for leaving a comment it is very much appreciated. Stop by again! jj
