Running A Half Marathon
Bloggers Get the Word Out
When you have a blog on the internet whether it’s a blog for “making money online” or a blog about “affiliate marketing” or just a “blog about life” every once in awhile you’re asked to participate in helping a good cause. Having your own blog feels great because you know that you are reaching thousands of people and that you have the ability of lending a helping hand to people that work for some of these great causes. This is one of those times, and it’s the pleasure of MomsCashBlog to be able to help The Fresh Air Fund in any way that we could and this is my contribution. We are asked to get the word out about a Spring Half Marathon that will be held this spring/March 2010 in the Big Apple and they need runners, sponsors, volunteers, and of course donations at any time are always welcomed.
First about The Fresh Air Fund
The Fresh Air Fund is a not-for-profit agency that gives thousands of inner city children a chance of a life time. They have been giving these children this opportunity for more than 130 years which is really an outstanding accomplishment for a non-profit agency. Fresh air says it all, for these children get a chance to get out of the city in the summer time when the cities are hot, steamy and ozone levels are high. They get to enjoy several weeks with a sponsored family that may live by the ocean and make sand castles in the sand, jump & run from the crashing frigid cold waves of the Atlantic ocean and breathe in the fresh salt air. Think about a child that has never left the confines of the city-” the cement jungle” but are given a chance to stay at a camp with clean blue lakes and wildlife all around them, now imagine sitting around a camp fire at night toasting marshmallows. Seeing skyscrapers & tenement buildings standing tall & straight every day of their lives, but for a couple of weeks they get to enjoy beautiful trees standing tall & green reaching upward for the clear blue skies. They may take hikes in the forest and see wildlife that they may never see again. For these two weeks of the summer these children become part of another family doing all the things that some of them may never get to experience. Playing family board games on a rainy day at camp, maybe tenting in the back yard, or helping with the family veggie garden and tasting fresh fruit that they picked with their own hands. These are all memories that these children will cherish for their lifetime and you as a sponsored family will feel great knowing that you gave some child a chance of looking at the world in a different light and may lead them on a completely different path later in their life. Everyone wins in this program..
The New York City Half Marathon
Interest is high and the excitement building for the New York City Half Marathon that will have runners from all over the world, plus many of the Fresh Air Fund racers are getting ready for the March 21, 2010 race this spring. There are still openings for racers although limited space so if you are interested in running a half marathon please get in contact with the Fresh Air Fund asap. Last year’s 09 Fresh Air Fund Racers that completed the NYC Half-Marathon, raised almost $90,000.00. They depend on tax deductible donations & other fund raisers to keep this wonderful project going. If you want to sponsor a racer you can do that or if you just want to make a donation that is welcomed anytime of the year! But if you want to run in a historic half marathon race, then get training and sign up soon and you could be running with other runners from all over the world.
So get those running shoes ready and start stretching or whatever it is you runners do to prepare for a big marathon. Let’s get the word out about the Fresh Air Fund-Half Marathon coming March 21, 2010… which is really just around the corner if you have to start training. You’ll be running in a NYC Marathon and at the same time you will be helping the children and the Fresh Air Fund. Mark your calendar March 21, 2010.

Hi jj,
I’m very familiar with the NYC marathon as I grew up there and believe it or not, actually participated in one. I didn’t do very well but it was exciting and an experience I’ll never forget. I commend you for promoting such a worthy cause and hopefully many people will see your message.

I live in NYC! I don’t think I’ll get the time to run but I might definitely try to get into the city and support the runners some way or another! Thanks for dedicating an entire post about this.. and you’re so right.. we that have blogs and have the opportunity to share with our readers.. need to do our part to help out causes that might be able to some day change the world. Even if your blog is a “small scale”.. you can still do your part and make a difference. Keep up the great work!

Thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving a comment. I look at giving or helping as something we all do at some time in our lives, and at times when we “can” give, there are times in our lives when all of us just can’t give but just recognizing the fact that we can help in maybe a different cause or time then we are doing what we can do. Maybe paying it forward could be your contribution. I did that the other day waiting in line at a toll booth, I gave the woman my dollar and told her to pay the extra 50cents to the car behind me. Wow! You should of seen that guy in the car behind me, I watched him in my rear view mirror and he raced to catch up with me then passed me and started waving and mouthing thank you. I’m sure he’s wondering who the hell is this broad, but it was fun and it made my day, imagine what his day must felt like? We all do what we can. Even if it’s only 50 cents you make someone’s day. Try it!m jj
