Make Money Selling Used and New Books
Selling our used books is a great way to recycle and help the environment as well as declutter our homes… but selling used books usually doesn’t bring enough money to make it worth the effort. Traditional used bookstores only offer around 50 cents or less per book and with eBay, you have to sign up and create an account and then enter the auction and all that jazz. It’s a waiting game and it doesn’t usually pay off, because no one wants to pay those shipping fees. Well, I found a wonderful website, CKYbooks.com, that pays a good price for used and new books. It’s easy to use, you get an instant quote (offer), shipping is FREE, you get paid within 24-48 hours… and if you get a better offer, they will “match” it!
CKYbooks.com has a database of book ISBN’s and an evaluation of each book’s worth, so you’ll get an instant offer for any book they want to buy. The offers are based upon a book’s estimated resell value and the book’s popularity. The lowest offer they make is a guaranteed $1.00…. The highest offer they have given out is $100 for one book! (Wow!)
This site is so easy to use and answers all of your questions. Just type in the 10 digit ISBN number or the 13 digit number at the bottom of the bar code that begins with 978. You immediately receive an offer (price they will pay for your book), accept or reject that offer and proceed to the checkout or enter more books and watch your money rack up.
Before writing this post, I grabbed 6 random books off of my bookshelf just to test the system and see how well they paid. Out of those 6 books, I got 4 offers at a grand total of $18.51. If you’ve ever sold used books, then you know $18 is a good amount of money for 4 average used books! One of the books I entered was a Dummies series and it got the best offer of $7.83. Hey, who doesn’t have a few “Dummie” books hanging around their house? (Don’t tell me I’m the only one?? lol) Two of my books were not accepted, but they had the titles in their database. Of course not every book you have will be desirable to booksellers but it’s worth your while to plug in the ISBN and see if you get an offer.
CKYbooks.com will buy almost every type of books, but here’s some very specific categories they’re looking for: Business, Self-Help, Medical, Gardening, Religious, Mathematics, History, Education, Economics, Sports, Science, Psychology, Computer, Marketing, Politics, Foreign Language, Travel, Art, Law, Engineering, Biography.. they also accept Current Fiction and Textbooks (but no teacher’s editions or foreign editions).
After you check out and select the delivery method, you’ll get a mailing label so you can ship your books to them for FREE! Yes, that’s right… the shipping of your books is paid for by them! You can also check the status of your order throughout the whole process and they pay with a check or PayPal, whichever you prefer. All payment checks will be made within 24 hours of receiving your shipment and checks will be mailed out within 48 hours.
So if you want to simplify your life… declutter your home, or you need extra money and you have some books that you don’t want, I think you’ll be very happy with the offers you get from CKYbooks.com. Remember… they ”match” offers from other sites, so if you get a better deal with another bookseller, send an e-mail to CKYbooks and they’ll match that offer and even give you an extra 10% on top of it. I’ve looked around and believe me, I have not found better prices (or terms) for selling our used books than CKYbooks has. They make it sooooo easy. Happy selling!
Oh, and by the way… don’t forget to put MomsCash in as your referral code when you use CKYbooks. I’m going to try to get this for all bloggers to use as referrals so I’ll tell you more about that later and we can all make commissions with selling books thru them. (They need a chance to set this up right and it wasn’t ready for this “Press Release”! lol. Maybe I can give you the details in a comment later on this post, or do another post if there are more questions.) Thanks!

This is a good find. Thanks. I got good price offers for my books. I do wonder how much they will take off as some are not in great condition.
I used to sell books all the time but I usually use Half or Amazon if I do it online. I also like to sell at “real” stores like Powells. Luv Powells! But all of these can give really low prices for the value of the books so I’ll check that site out. Sometimes I sell huge collections of books for my parents or friends that they never read. I keep a portion of the profit so it declutters their house and we both raise some money!

Nan… I have been looking up my IPSNs and so far I’m over $120!! Now I don’t know if I want to part with some of them. lol Not sure about the condition thing, but I think they’ll be fair.
Hey Elaine… great idea, you should get paid for the “grunt work”. I’ve got a lot of decluttering to do before winter. Wish you were nearby to do mine for me. lol (I’ll get an e-mail to you soon.)
Wish I had known about this site back in my college days. I would always get totally owned when selling books back to the bookstore at the end of the semester
Shawn.. You’re right! These guys pay much better for college textbooks than the college bookstores do. My mother was a college professor so we have a bunch of textbooks hanging around, but most are the instructor’s editions which don’t sell well. (I think the instructors editions are free to the professors anyways.
Hey guys, about the FREE shipping, sorry but that applies for the US only. Anyone who sends books from outside of the country will get reimbursed the amount of what the “media mail” would have cost. That’s still a good deal.. don’t think other book buyers would do that!.
Thank you for sharing a solid venue to make some money.
Becca, I know not everyone has a blog so I try to find things to help people make money online in other ways. This is a “solid” venue, as you said,.. no scams, nothing that costs YOU money to do, just selling books you no longer need!
Wow!This is great info.I used to sell books and other clutter at Ebay but I stopped cause fees are too high and it doesn’t sell much. I just started swapping my books at bookmooch but hey if I could earn this way – why not. Thanks for sharing.
JJ, this is another great post. This is the third time I’ve checked out this post. Each time I came here, I told myself I need to find out more information on this program but I never had the time to do it . As you know, I’m an international member and because of that, I’m likely to face payment and shipping problems that US residents normally don’t. If you happen to know anything related to my case, please share with me.
Thanks for the info.
very useful, ty
Jade Mama Wannabe… It’s a great way to make some extra money when we need it. (when you have kids, they are going to be adorable, by the way! lol)
Hey Curiousman… good to see you! I will ask Kevin, the President of CKY about that Monday. I’ll find out exactly how that works and leave a comment on here so all of the internationals can see the answer.
CKY might be an “affiliate advertiser” so I will do another post when the system gets set up… and I will learn all I can about international orders to add to the post.
Gman.. glad you like it.
You should also try out BookScouter.com to compare prices from a bunch of book-buying sites, including CKY Books. They do often have the best prices, but it doesn’t hurt to shop around.
Thanks Brandon.. Good to know all options out there for us.
Thank you for sharing this. This surely will provide me with some extra cash.
Interesting. It’s ‘out of box’ way making money. Thanks & keep sharing sharing!
Hmmm good idea:)
However me personally I love to collect books.
If I find any lying around I want to get rid of Ill definetly use your recomended site;)
I was just introduced to your blog over the weekend. I had been thinking about starting my own blog and after reading through your site and reading some great articles, I decided to go for it. I really love this article about the book selling. I have a few that have been collecting dust in my closet.
Great info!
Nice idea to sell ebooks. CKYbooks.com is a good website for selling e-books. E-bay supports a lot in this type auctions. Can we sell any e-book or we have to sell only reseller right books?
This one question is making me worry.
zAbLQJ Thanks for good post
Great Blog!!! I just signed up and used your code!!! Do you have any more info on the meeting competiters prices plus 10%? I was only offered $1.00 for one of my books and I found it on another site for almost $3.00! But they definitly give more on most of the books by a long shot! Thanks!
I sell back my used books to http://www.MyBookCart.com. They give higher prices than most other buyback sites.
