Adsense made easy with Adsense Addict

Posted Wednesday, December 24, 2008 by momscashblog | 22 Comments so far

The following post is a present from Steve of adsenseaddict.com to help new bloggers better understand how to make money with Adsense. I had some problems with Adsense, but when I found the Adsense Addict I grew to understand it better. I’ve met some great people blogging and Steve is one of the most helpful bloggers around.

Contextual ads do well on any type of blog. Readers are used to seeing text ads on blog and major websites and most importantly, they click on them… so at some point you’re gonna have to learn how to use Google Adsense. As you’ll see from this post, the Adsense Addict makes it very easy to understand but you’ll want to keep reading his blog to know everything about Adsense and how to use it. I am grateful for all the help he has given me and for this helpful post. Merry Christmas, from MomsCashBlog.

Adsense Made Easy

Google Adsense is  one of the most popular ways to make money online. You can make a nice little income from Adsense and here are a few tips on how I get the most out of Adsense.

Before you start using Google Adsense you need to find out which keywords pay the most as these are the ones we will target. For this I use Google Adwords Keyword Tool. Let’s say you are targeting the make money niche. Type your keyword  in and hit get keyword ideas. This will
bring up a list of keywords we can choose from.

If you look at the first column this will show you the Advertiser Competition. Try to target keywords that have a high level  of competition. The other column we need to look at is the Approx Search Volume Month. This show us how many times your keyword was searched for in the last month. For example I will use the “make money” as my niche. After using Adwords Keyword Tool, I have picked 3 key phrases I will use, make extra money, make money fast and make money from home. Now I need to find out how much these pay in clicks. Here I use Google Adwords Traffic Estimator.

Entering my 3 key phrases  into the traffic estimator we then need to add our country then continue. The only thing I look at here is the search volume, estimated avg CPC and estimated clicks. Make money fast looks good with an average of 110 clicks and $2.40 – $3.60 per click. (I usually halve this amount as a guide.) Now we have our keywords we will use in our post, the next step is to optimize Adsense so visitors to our site click on our Adsense ads.

Adsense for Content is one most of us have seen on websites which uses text links. Adsense gives us 2 options here with Ad units and Link units. Ad units include banner ads and text links with a description and URL underneath. Link units displays a list of topics that are relevant to your pages. One difference between Ad units and Link units is that if you use Ad units you are paid everytime a visitor clicks your Adsense ad. Link units require 2 clicks, once when a visitor clicks a Link unit on your site and then click this will bring up another page with a series of Adsense ads and the visitor has to click on one of these ads before it is credited to your account.

Once we have decided on which form of Adsense we will use, we need to decide on things like borders and the color of the ads. Most people recommend no borders and I tend to agree here. One thing you need to do with Adsense to get the most clicks is to make your Adsense ads look natural and part of your site. Color is another important factor when using Google Adsense. Blue is the most popular color people use for their ads as this is a natural color for links and some even say visitors to your site are more used to blue links. If blue doesn’t suit your website just try to use colors that you already use and try to blend the ads in.

Another step I usually take is to track which ads I have placed on my site and find which one works best. You need to track your ads using Google Adsense to know if you are getting the most dollars for your clicks. I won’t try to explain here how to set up tracking ads as this is a whole post on it’s own but there is plenty of information on this online.

As an example here is what I might have setup. I have placed Adsense ads on top of the blog post and an ad block in the right sidebar. Google will place the highest paying ads into the Ad unit above my post and the next highest paying ads in the right sidebar. On a site, Google reads your page across the top then left column, middle and then right column.

After tracking the ads we find that more visitors are clicking the Ad unit in the right sidebar and not many are clicking the ads above the post. The higher paying ads are in the top post so maybe you need to replace this with another form or advertising, mayabe an affiliate banner or something.

Hey JJ!
Merry xmas to you and a happy healthy prosperous new year!

Yeah I went out a little, just like usual on the weekend, still working during the week:) Got big plans, wrote my first ebook and have another two in progress, once its done Ill bundle them and sell them as a package. Should be an interesting project:D

As for squidoo, its interesting, but I dont know how worth the time/reward is. I have made about 50 pages on it, and ads and clicks bring in about 25$ A MONTH. I have one page on squidoo about the tatoos that has brought $550 in the last 3 months, and its ranking on page one for “unique tattoo designs” in google, so its not too shabby. If only I knew how to consistantly set up squidoo pages ranking that high :D

You dont have to sign up to squidoo, you can view my page on tattoos here.

If you want to sign up to squidoo however, you can do it here.It will pay me $2 :D hehehe

Have a wonderful weekend!
All the best!

Oh…i forgot about adsense. I was making a few cents a day, but recently added a page ranking high, getting 2k impressions a day, and its bumped my adsense up to $1 a day, but thats still insanely low. Shoemoney blog, he got a adsense cheque for 180k$!!!! How?????

Sandra, Glad you’re starting a blog. They say some people do pretty well with Adsense, it depends on the niche and keywords, etc. and having a LOT of traffic helps. They are on most every site so it’s good to have them since people are used to seeing them.. Happy holidays to you too.

Hi Plin, Thanks and good to see you! Make sure you add ME to your RSS too. (lol, just kidding)

Hey Laura, Steve is good and has been very helpful especially after the problem I had with the transfer when my setting disabled. Not that I make much with Adsense(lol) but every little bit counts. Have a great New Year!

Hi Dirk…Glad you had a good holiday and sounds like you’ve been busy with that e-book, etc. Thanks for filling me in on Squidoo. Now I can view your unique tatoos (I mean your “Unique Tatoo Squidoo page”… I don’t want to get caught trying to view any unique tatoos you may have on your body! lol) I will definitely go thru you to sign up and give you the referral. Btw, if you ever do find out what brings in the money “consistently” let us know, please! lol

Insanely low could be a way to describe my Adsense too, but I keep at it. Maybe he meant $1.80. and his 0 key got stuck. lolol Good luck with your e-book and the whole project. I will check it out, of course. :)

great information steve. i have a couple adsense link units across the top and in the right sidebar widget, but i never really made any real money, so it wasn’t worth it…i’d say that you really need A LOT of traffic to make it worthwhile. i believe i made about $10 in the 3 months that i was seriously blogging.

on another note, what happened to MCB’s page rank? i believe it used to be a pr4, now it’s showing up in my toobar as pr0.

Hi Betsy… Glad I could help. I got your reply and will write back to ya when I catch up. (In the meantime, I’d keep a diary with dates of any changes you make.) Nice to meet you and thanks for coming to MomsCashBlog.

Shafar… You are far from a beginner. I’ve learned a lot from your posts. Are you on break from University? If so, enjoy it!

Hey Michael, Thanks for coming over. That’s a great idea! As always, I welcome any suggestions you have. I want to thank you for all of your help and kindness this past year. May you have a wonderfully prosperous new year! (that goes for your dad as well. lol)

Anthony. cute… Where would bloggers be without you giving updates of PageRank? lol Yeah, it was a 4 when I got here, then went down to a 3, and then down to 0, like you said. I’ve been penalized for a couple of things.. one is TextLink Ads which I’m hesitant to drop as it brings me a couple hundred a month but I’ll keep you posted.

SEO and Traffic Guide… Steve deserves all the credit for this post… and he’s the Adsense guy.. or Addict should I say! lol. (great name you’ve got there by the way!)

Hi Grissom… I haven’t had good luck with Adsense on this blog either, but I also run a cooking blog with my sister and that does well. I think Adsense works for certain blogs/websites. Anything to do with making money won’t do well because there are so many scams out there that people will not touch them.

Hi JJ, saw your comments about problem in joining Social Networks.

I think the best thing you can do now is contacting the prior owner of MCB. But if you are not able to contact her, then try contacting the Administrator of the concerned Social Networks and request them for better solution. They might take actions to delete the old account if it’s inactive, so that you can create a new one for MCB!

Wanna know about Squidoo? I know NOTHING! ;) I didn’t tried that yet! Mostly I use Blog-Catalog, Bloglog, Digg, Stumble Upon, Facebook, Technorati etc.

Then about my University, yeh now a short break, Christmas Vaccation!

Happy New Year!
Have a great year 2009 :)
Keep in Touch… :)

Hi JJ,
Ive been using the google adword tool. Its pretty useful. But there are some exceptions. There are some keywords which have heavy vol. but then it takes a lot of SEO tactics to get your page up there.

Lets say you search for “blog”, there are tons of websites outthere. I think the key is if you keep a balance of some but not too much traffic keywords.
