Fotolia 12690217 L 300x199 4 Fast Ways to Maintain Productivity at WorkChoosing to run (or work for) an internet-based business from the comforts of your home is an excellent way to earn some extra income. But you have to actually work to make money.  And whether you’ve already learned it the hard way or not, your home is filled tons of distractions that can prevent you from actually being productive—there’s the television, the phone, and your kids just to name a few.  To make sure that you are always the most productive that you can be however, follow these 4 simple (yet effective) tips below.

4) Don’t Stay in Your PJs.  Even though technically you could simply roll out of bed and start working (after all no one is going to see you) it’s best if you don’t loaf around in your pajamas all day while you work.  Shower, wash your face, brush your teeth, comb your hair and put on some decent clothes—you don’t need a pant suit by any means, but you’ll feel more equipped to tackle all of your assignments and feel more “professional” with decent clothes; this feeling alone is what may be needed for you to boost your productivity. Not to mention, being clean and well dressed can help you exuberant a stream of confidence and absorb a “go-getter” attitude when working on assignments.

3) Give Yourself Mini Breaks. While yes you want to feel accomplished and complete all of your tasks, don’t lock yourself up in your home office for 8 hours a day until you’ve “produced.” Taking mini breaks is perfectly fine and actually encouraged. Going out to get a breath of fresh air, eating a snack, or taking a small stroll is one of the simplest ways to recharge your brain and give you the energy you need to keep going. Experts even say something as minor as checking your social networking site(s) and surfing the Web from time-to-time can actually improve your work performance.

2) Have a Designated Work Space. By far one of the easiest ways to be productive is to create your own personal workspace or home office. For example, working on a lap top while sitting on your couch in front of the noisy TV is not the wisest of decisions. And trying to set up shop in your bedroom?  Think again.  Being anywhere near your comfy bed is the fastest way to travel to Dreamsville.  Instead, try to convert an empty bedroom into a workstation so you can work in peace with minimal distractions.  If you don’t have a bedroom to spare, then at least try to work in a well lit area where you’re forced to sit in an upright position, like at your kitchen table for example.  And remember: always keep your stationed cleaned.  You will lose a substantial amount of time having to find the proper document you need hidden underneath a pile of trash.

1) Assign Yourself “Off Days.” Last but not least, the easiest way to be productive throughout the week is to know when it’s time to take a step back, forget about work, and tend to other important aspects in your life, such as your family. Having your work at your grasp all the time makes it extremely tempting to work on the weekends or right before you go to bed for example; but doing this is a surefire way to burn yourself out—and try being productive once you’re sick of work. So don’t let it consume you.

My thanks goes out to Nadia for her guest post.  It could not have come at a better time for me as, lately my kidney problems have been acting up which has me running back ‘n’ forth to doctor appointments. Which in turn has me going to hospital for every test known to man (in my opinion), and of course which the insurance company is not picking up much of the bills. So again I thank Nadia and her patience in waiting for me.  jj

Good advice, I started working from home a while ago, at first I thought I had the easy life, but got very lazy with it. I found by treating it like a regular job and giving myself a schedule to work too, I became more efficient and earned more money.
To work for the company I use quote ref. W0149 for a fast tracked application.
Good luck

This is a great article! I work outside my home and also work from home so when I am done with my outside job and start working from home, I keep my work clothes on to feel like I am still working in my office. Also JJ please get better soon!

I work at home, and I have to agree that wearing presentable clothes does make a difference. It’s like saying I’m ready for work or to tackle a job. I’ve tried being in my PJs before, and I found myself less than productive that day.
